How to Bleach Clothes the Right Way

how to bleach clothes
ver wonder how to bleach clothes in order to keep them usable? Too often we throw away or donate used clothing items when we think they have seen better days. But many white clothing items can be restored easily IF you know the proper ways to bleach and clean (restore) them.

Following is a great way to bleach your white items.

  1. Always pre-test: The initial time you attempt to bleach an item, do a test on a hidden area (like the inside of a collar or cuff) to make sure that bleach will not do more harm than good.
  2. Once you know your clothes are safe to bleach, soak your item in bleach and water before washing it especially if it's extra soiled and stained. Remember that with many whites, if washed often, they don’t require pre-soaking. Note: If you still want to pre-soak, remember that many washing machines have a pre-soak cycle. Check to see if yours does.
  3. Add bleach to your washer's bleach dispenser separately, then run your wash cycle normally. If you're using an all-fabric or oxygen color-safe bleach, you can add it at the beginning of the cycle. Make sure you use and follow the manufacturer's instructions. A good one is OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover. For liquid bleach, add the amount recommended by the manufacturer through the detergent dispenser 5 minutes into the cycle. Adding bleach at the beginning actually reduces the detergent's effectiveness in cleaning. So add bleach at the beginning of the washing cycle so the detergent will clean more efficiently.
  4. Dry as normal.

Please remember to never use bleach to clean stains on carpets, rugs, or upholstery. When you face troublesome stains contact me at 256-886-9100 and let's discuss your cleaning options.
