6/3/2019 0 Comments The Value of Cleanliness![]() ![]() No one knows if there is really a connection between cleanliness and godliness. The heritage of Israel (particularly the ancient Jewish people) was quite concerned with the concepts of cleanliness and uncleanliness. Their religious law codes outlined the details and aspects of each. They were told to avoid things like touching dead bodies, eating certain animals, going near people with leprosy, and being near bodily discharges. If they had done any of these things the rules related to how to wash one's self were elaborate and detailed. For the ancient Jews, keeping the religious laws and standards was considered prerequisites to approaching their God. This is why it is no wonder that the expression has its foundation in ancient Jewish literature. Jesus seemed to be more concerned about what goes on inside a person's heart rather than whether they were dirty physically. He reminded us that it is what comes out of us (from the inside out) that defiles us in the eyes of God. This is what we should be most concerned about according to Jesus. So, whatever position is more accurate remains open for debate. We all can agree, however, that being clean certainly makes us feel better physically. We feel better physically and emotionally when we live and work in a clean environment. I know I always feel better after a hot shower or when I have cleaned my home, office, or garage. I am sure you do as well. I trust this post has been of interest. Tony Guthrie Kleaneasy Carpet and Floor Facebook Page More INFO
