My Dad Died but What Happened to His Carpets?

Heavy Soil Removal from Carpet
I had a customer call whose dad had recently died from complications of dementia. The customer (let’s call him Joe) lived out of state and had been paying someone to take care of his dad. He thought he had vetted the caretaker well and could trust her, but this proved not to be the case. The caretaker was lazy and irresponsible. Her responsibilities were fairly simple. She tended to Joe’s elderly father by bathing him, administering his medications, and preparing his meals. Additionally, she was to take responsibilty for the dog and keep the house clean.
In exchange for this service, she received a very nice paycheck and a private guest room with a bath. She was a live-in caretaker. However, Joe was certainly not aware that the caretaker he hired allowed the house to literally become a shambles. She didn’t clean the house at all and she rarely let the dog out to do his “business.”
After his father passed Joe came to the house to prepare to sell it. He felt devastated by the filth found in every room. Moreover, dog urine and waste saturated the carpets; therefore, he felt hopeless when he finally reached out to me. I assured him that I could make the carpets look almost new with my cleaning system.
Curiosity Was a Reality
When the scheduled appointment time arrived Joe greeted me at the door. He had been cleaning the house for several hours. Outside, many bags of trash piled up along the curb. The bathrooms and kitchen were the dirtiest I have ever seen. It was truly a sad situation.
I began by sweeping the large pieces of debris off the carpets (those pieces too large for a vacuum cleaner to pick up). Then I vacuumed the carpets in every room twice with my Kirby Sentria vacuum. In fact, it should go without saying that the vacuum bags were packed with dirt, dust, pet hair, and general junk.
After vacuuming I treated every urine stain with a commercial grade urine odor, spot, and stain remover. Despite the fact that every window was open, the odor in the house remained absolutely terrible. Applying this odor control treatment made an immediate impact on the odor.
Next I presprayed the carpets with the strongest, yet family safe, carpet cleaning solution available. I heated the cleaner up to 200 degrees, sprayed it down heavily and allowed it to dwell for 15 minutes.
After applying the prespray, I used a counter-rotating brush machine (CRB) to scrub the fibers. As I did this, Joe observed the work. His curiosity was getting the better of him. He wanted to know if I was going to be successful at getting the carpets clean. As I ran the CRB over the carpets they started to look much better. At one point joe said:
It’s actually quite satisfying just to watch this.
Finally, I extracted the solution with my carpet cleaning wand to complete the process. As I ran the wand over the carpets the dirt started to disappear and the carpets started to look almost new.
