Tile and Grout Cleaning

Tile and Grout Cleaning
It's seems that the flooring craze is all about tile and grout in bathrooms and kitchens and hardwood everywhere else. People like the look of these floors and I have to agree that they are indeed beautiful. As a carpet and floor cleaning specialist I welcome this flooring "craze." Many carpet cleaning providers are bothered by the trend but I welcome it with open arms.

Some people think that keeping tile and grout clean is fairly easy. Unfortunately this is not the case. While these floors are not overly difficult to clean yourself, it is time-consuming and labor intensive.

Do it yourself tile and grout cleaning
Here's how to clean tile and grout yourself.

  • Sweep or vacuum to remove all dry debri
  • Secure a tile and grout brush (these can be hand-held or attached to a long pole like a broom pole.
  • Apply a detergent especially designed for tile and grout with a spray bottle or a pump up sprayer (follow label instructions). Please do not use household cleaners or bleach as they can actually damage the grout.
  • Manually scrub the tile and especially the grout lines with the brush. Dirty water should be evident as you scrub.
  • Work only in small sections because you don't want the soiled water to dry as you are working on another area.
  • Wipe, don't mop, the excess with a towel to absorb most of the dirt into the towel(s).
  • Damp mop with clean water until all dirt is removed.
  • Allow several hours to dry.
  • Typically some darker or dirty spots will show after it dries even after all your hard work. Time to clean those areas again.
